Dana A. Kern is an intuitive and contemporary Colorado artist. Dana takes us on a visual journey by using the fluidity of acrylics and experiments with textures, layers of color, light and motion to create unique pieces.
With a 20-year background in interior design, Dana has always loved the use of color and texture. A unique point of view and creative intuition convey her recognizable, signature style. The work is decidedly three dimensional and demands a live experience - it is not possible to perceive the paintings' rich textures and bold colors unless you see them in person. Her large scale paintings depict hints of land and seascapes in abstract form, leaving room for the viewers' imagination to tell its' own story.
Dana appreciates and honors all women with her latest work. The combination of collage, portraiture and bold color reflect the complexity and individuality of every woman.
“The desire behind my art is that it not only makes a statement, but also evokes a positive emotional connection with my audience.” Dana A. Kern
A Note from Dana...
The first memory that I can recall where I felt a connection to art was in third grade. Mrs. Jensens class. We were making the standard "glue stuff onto a drawing of a turkey" art project. She came to my desk and told me how good mine was. I responded with " my grandmother is an artist." In my young third grader view of life, if she was an artist then I must be one too.
I have wanted to be an artist for as long as I can remember.
Raising four beautiful children, starting my own interior design business, and working hard to create a life for myself and my children, the dream became buried.
A few short years ago, with children raised and the economy putting my business on hold, I was free to think about "What now?"
I bought a couple of tubes of paint, a brush and a canvas. I started to play.
The passion grew inside of me and there was no turning back.
With the very patient and loving support of my husband, I have been able to take classes, hone my skills and explore new possibilities. I have incorporated my design and artistic skills to create beautiful spaces for my collectors.
I am constantly inspired by the beauty of the people and places around me. Some of my favorite locations that impact me most are the Colorado Mountains, the beautiful northwest coastline and the Hawaiian Islands.
When I paint I connect with who I am on a spiritual level. I hope that is reflected in my work and ultimately to the viewer.
